Smoothest ride, largest cabin, revolutionary seating, sharpest entertainment, longest range and clearest vision- the Bombardier Global 5500 business jet is a class-leading aircraft designed and manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace. Its modified range gives it 700 nautical miles more range than its closest competitor that enables it to fly from Western Europe to the US West Coast nonstop.
Bombardier revealed the Global 5500 together with the Global 6500 developments on May 27 2018. The aircraft is expected to enter service on the last quarter of 2019.
On October 15 2019, it received its certification from European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
On December 23 2019, the Global 5500 received its type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Global 5500 Design
The Global 5500 has an exterior length of 29.5 meters, tail height of 7.8 meters, fuselage diameter of 2.8 meters and wheelbase of 11.5 meters. It has new engines, interiors, avionics, wings, and presents decreased fuel burn and emissions and increased range and comfort to the passengers.
The re-profiled wing has a span of 28.7 meters, designed and constructed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., a Japanese company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
The aircraft also features aerodynamic cleanups that will blend with the purpose-built engines to improve fuel efficiency by up to 13%.

The Global 5500 features the Rockwell Collins Combined Vision System (CVS), which joins infrared Enhanced Vision System (EVS) and Synthetic Vision System (SVS) imagery into a single conformal view. The CVS combines both vision systems throughout the entire display in order to give the pilot the best possible view into one dynamic image and to provide real-time situational awareness.
The avionics system of the Global 5500 also include advanced weather radar for predicting wind shear, Airport Moving Maps, real-time air traffic and an enhanced terrain database that serves as digital representation of the elevation of the terrain at a number of discrete points.

The cabin of the Global 5500 is 12.41-meter long, 2.41-meter wide and 1.88-meter high. It has three different living spaces that gives the needed seclusion and enjoyment by providing sufficient room to eat, work and rest in total convenience.
The conference and dining areas are equipped with the Nuage seat which grants proper posture both for business meetings and dining, and can also be converted into a reclinable lounge chair.

The Global 5500 boasts the Rockwell Collin’s Venue cabin management and entertainment system, innovated with the capability to provide the first ever ultra high-definition 4k content all throughout the cabin. The aircraft’s Ka-band satellite connectivity supplies seamless internet connectivity that is almost 35 times faster than other internet systems in the industry, and makes use of the updated satellite technology.
Global 5500 Engine and Performance
Powered by the Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engine, the Global 5500 has a maximum thrust of 15,125 pounds and emits 48% less smoke and 20% less nitrous oxide. It is two decibels noiseless, burns 7% less fuel and has 9% added thrust than the BR710 engines on the old models.
The enhanced performance is the result of Rolls-Royce’s Advance2 Engine – Technology Demonstrator Program. The enhanced engines boast a new core with new high-pressure compressor, as well as an advanced engine Health and Usage-Monitoring System (HUMS) that tracks the status of critical systems and components.
